Intense pulsed light (IPL) uses broad-spectrum light to fade brown sun spots, freckles, and redness. A cool gel is applied and the light is flashed over the skin, which feels like a rubber band snap. Dark spots darken and flake off over 1–2 weeks; a series of about 3–5 treatments, 4 weeks apart, gives the best results.
